Vol. 305 No. 9

Written Answers. - Urban Districts Status.

361.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of applications for either town commissioner status or urban district council status he has received from new urban areas around the country; and the plans he has for specifically dealing with these applications.

362.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he proposes to grant town commissioner status to Shannon New Town.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 361 and 362 together.

I have received two applications for the establishment of new boards of town commissioners. One is from the town of Leixlip, about which I replied to a question from the Deputy on 16 February. The other is from the town of Shannon. Both applications are being dealt with in accordance with the law relating to the establishment of new boards of town commissioners.

There are no applications on hand for the establishment of new urban district councils.
