My Department is reviewing on a general basis the question of the financing of improvement works to local authority rented dwellings including the use of capital receipts from the sale of such houses for this purpose. I expect the review to be completed shortly following which I propose to issue revised guidelines to local authorities, including Carrick-on-Suir UDC, on the financing of such works having regard to the necessity to conserve as far as possible available capital resources for the provision of urgently required new local authority housing and the financing of house purchase loans.
