asked the Minister for Fisheries the amount of money which has been provided by the EEC as compensation for Irish fishermen deprived of their normal herring catches following the EEC Celtic Sea ban; and the number of Irish fishermen who have benefited.
: No compensation has been paid to Irish fishermen for loss of earnings incurred by the Celtic Sea Herring ban as the EEC Commission's proposals for such compensation have not yet been adopted by the Council of Ministers.
: The Minister for Fisheries told us six months ago that within a short time such a scheme would be brought in. Has the Minister any idea of when the scheme will come into operation?
: No.
