Some 900 additional teaching posts will be created in national schools in the 1978-79 school year to meet increased enrolments of pupils, the revision of the pupil/teacher ratio which I announced recently and the appointment of extra remedial teachers. Six hundred and thirty four of these posts will be created in July 1978 and the remaining 266 in January 1979, when the special trainee graduate teachers will have completed their course. The output from the colleges of education in June 1978 is expected to be 1,000 and trained teachers from other sources are expected to number 150.
