: The total budget allocations in 1978 for organisations involved in medical and medico-social research amount to £677,000.
In addition to research carried out under the control of bodies established specially for research work, various medical conditions are investigated as part of the services provided at a number of hospitals. The cost involved in these projects is not readily ascertainable.
In the light of current demands on resources I am satisfied that the allocation to organisations engaged in research is not unreasonable.
