Vol. 307 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - Medical Research Grant .

23.

asked the Minister for Health the total Government grant for medical research in Ireland in 1978; and if he is satisfied with the priority allocated to this area.

: The total budget allocations in 1978 for organisations involved in medical and medico-social research amount to £677,000.

In addition to research carried out under the control of bodies established specially for research work, various medical conditions are investigated as part of the services provided at a number of hospitals. The cost involved in these projects is not readily ascertainable.

In the light of current demands on resources I am satisfied that the allocation to organisations engaged in research is not unreasonable.
