Vol. 307 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - Physiotherapist Posts .

30.

asked the Minister for Health the progress he has made to date in his examination of the staffing levels and the adequacy and suitability of training arrangements for physiotherapists in Ireland.

: As a result of the examination of staffing levels in physiotherapy, in conjunction with the recent job-creation programmes, a total of 54 extra posts of physiotherapist in the health services were approved.

Discussions are also under way between my Department and representatives of the two physiotherapy schools in this country with a view to improving and expanding their training arrangements and an effort is being made to arrive at a satisfactory solution at an early date.

(Cavan-Monaghan): When were the jobs approved and how many have been filled?

: They were spread over the period 1977-78 to now and they have been filled.

(Cavan-Monaghan): Have they all been filled?

: My understanding is that they have all been filled, but I shall check that information.
