Vol. 307 No. 10

Order of Business .

: It is proposed to take Nos. 3, 8, 4, 9 and 10. By agreement Private Members' Business, which will resume at 7 p.m. on item No. 20, will conclude at 7.05 p.m. and the Order of Business will be resumed at that time or as soon thereafter as the proceedings on item No. 20 have been concluded.

(Cavan-Monaghan): In relation to the Road Traffic (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 1978, which has been introduced in the Seanad, this party recognise that there is an urgent need for it and think that it would be a pity if its enactment were delayed until after the summer recess. Therefore, this party and, I understand, the Labour Party would be prepared to facilitate the passing of this Bill through the House next week before the summer recess.

: I would like to express my appreciation of Deputy Fitzpatrick's gesture. I think we will be able to avail of it, as we hope to have the Bill from the Seanad and introduced here next Tuesday for as quick a passage as we can give it.

: Could the Taoiseach indicate what other business it is intended to take before the adjournment and if any date has been set for the adjournment?

: The Chief Whip says that he cannot indicate that immediately. Perhaps if the Deputy would repeat the question at the end of Question Time we will have the information available for him.

: Is there no date set?

: No. As far as we are concerned we will continue as long as it is necessary to complete the business.

: Is that why the guillotine was introduced?

: No. There was a special reason for the guillotine as was explained by the Minister of State yesterday.

: An bhfuil an Taoiseach ábalta a rá cathain a bhfuil sé beartaithe aige an Bille um Údarás na Gaeltachta a thabhairt isteach? Dúirt an tAire Cosanta cúpla lá ó shin go mbeadh sé réidh an tseachtain seo.

: Foilseofar é go luath.

: Dúirt an tAire Cosanta go mbeadh sé againn i gceann cúpla lá.

: Ní dóigh liom go mbeidh sé ullamh i gceann cúpla lá.

: Has the Taoiseach or the Minister for Foreign Affairs considered making a statement to the House on the situation in the Lebanon so far as it affects Irish troops on UN service in view of the disturbing reports of the situation there? Has he taken any action in relation to developments there, which suggests deliberate obstruction by certain parties of the activities of the UN force and, in particular, the Irish section of that force?

: I will consult with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and I may then consider the propriety or the desirability, as the case may be, of making a statement.
