Vol. 309 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Kiosk.

16.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will provide a telephone kiosk as a matter of urgency to meet the needs of a large number of people in the new housing estate at Killenaule Road, Fethard, County Tip-perary, having regard to the guarantee by the county council in respect of any losses.

There are no plans at present to provide a telephone kiosk at the new estate in question, as the use likely to be made of it would not justify its provision. The Department have not been informed that the county council would be prepared to guarantee to bear any loss incurred on a kiosk at this estate.

Is the Minister aware that it is customary for the council in question to provide such guarantees? If that guarantee is forthcoming, would he reconsider the request having regard to the essential need for a telephone service in that very big built-up area?

To date no such request has come through. If it were to come through, I am sure the matter would be looked at.

Did the Minister say it would be looked at?
