Vol. 309 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Postal Services.

22.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reasons for the deterioration in postal services, as a result of which a postal packet posted in Dublin city on 9 October 1978 was not delivered to the addressee within Dublin city until the afternoon of 13 October.

Postal deliveries during the period 9 to 13 October suffered delay because arrears of mail work arising out of an unofficial stoppage of work by postmen at the Central Sorting Office, Dublin, during the previous weekend had to be carried forward into that period. It is regretted that some mail suffered exceptional delay as a result.

Arising out of that question, is the Minister aware that there is a state of absolute chaos now in relation to parcel post and that the parcel post is piling high in the sorting office because a machine broke down?

I am not so aware. If the Deputy will table a question on that subject I will have it answered.
