Vol. 309 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bord na Móna Turbary.

13.

asked the Minister or Industry, Commerce and Energy the average price that Bord na Móna have paid for turbary bog over the past year.

I am informed that this information is not readily available and that its extraction from the records of Bord na Móna would involve an undue expenditure of time and money.

I can tell the Minister of state the answer.

I am always willing to learn.

It is £40 to £60 per acre. would like to ask the Minister——

That is not in order.

This is a serious question which arises out of Bord na Móna's third development programme. Is it not a fact that most farmers are objecting to the price Bord na Móna are paying? This results in long delays in the acquisition of bogs for this programme. Does the Minister of State not agree that this is seriously impairing the work of Bord na Móna and needs a change in the law to enable them to pay for suitable bog land?

I am not in a position to comment on that in view of my original answer.

This is bordering on a serious situation——

That is a separate question.

This is seriously holding up the acquisition of bog land.
