asked the Minister for Health the present pay scales for (a) student nurses; (b) qualified nurses; and (c) nursing sisters; and when these pay scales were last reviewed.
Written Answers. - Nurses' Pay Scales.
The present pay scales for (a) student nurses; (b) qualified nurses and (c) nursing sisters are as follows—
Student Nurses |
£2463, £2502, £2536 |
Qualified Nurses |
£3258 × 8 increments to £4171 |
Nursing Sisters |
£4171 × 6 increments to £4670 |
A review of the pay scales for these grades was approved by me in September last following a hearing under the conciliation and arbitration scheme. This review provided for a three-phase special pay increase over and above the standard increase under the current national pay agreement.
The first of those phases was paid from 1 June 1978 and it is included in the pay scales shown above.
The remaining two phases will take effect from 1 January 1979 and 1 June 1979 and will give the following pay scales effective from those dates—
Student Nurses |
|
1 January 1979 |
£2572, £2612, £2697 |
1 June 1979 |
£2681, £2721, £2807 |
Qualified Nurses |
|
1 January 1979 |
£3377 × 8 increments to £4301 |
1 June 1979 |
£3495 × 8 increments to £4430 |
Nursing Sisters |
|
1 January 1979 |
£4301 × 6 increments to £4806 |
1 June 1979 |
£4430 × 6 increments to £4941 |
A further 2 per cent, payable to workers generally under the current national pay agreement will be added with effect from 1 March 1979.
