Vol. 310 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drogheda Road Plan.

26.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount to be provided this financial year towards the finalisation of the through road plan for Drogheda, County Louth; the total further cost; the amount which has been provided to finish the project; and if that sum will be provided in the next financial year.

I have allocated a grant of £150,000 in the current year towards the completion of Stages 1 and 2 of this project which provide for the new Boyne bridge and immediate ap-proach roads and the reconstruction of John Street. I am advised that the cost of widening James Street to Dublin Gate, which is the final stage of the project, will be in excess of £½ million. The timing of any further grant allocations will be dependent on progress made by Drogheda Corporation in the acquisition of the necessary lands and by the Office of Public Works in the reconstruction of St. Mary's Bridge.
