Forty-two one- and two-teacher schools were closed in 1977. A list of those schools is, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, being circulated with the Official Report. It is not possible to provide a similar list for 1978 nor is it possible at this stage to forecast the number or location of schools that will be closed in 1979-80.
Where it is proposed to close a school consultations take place with the interested local parties. This process is usually initiated by making the proposal to the board of management of the school concerned.
