Vol. 310 No. 9

Written Answers. - National Hospital Plan.

41.

asked the Minister for Health if he has reached a decision about a national hospital plan for Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would draw the Deputy's attention to my reply to Questions Nos. 5 and 6 of 6 April 1978, Official Report, Volume. 305, columns 213 to 215, in which I stated that the plans for the development of general hospitals in the Dublin area provide for six major hospitals—St. Vincent's Hospital, St. James's Hospital, the Mater Hospital, James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown and new hospitals at Beaumont and Tallaght.

I also stated that in the areas outside Dublin, general hospital services are being developed in the light of the Government's stated policy to preserve the role of the county hospital in providing the necessary level of services to the local community.
