Vol. 310 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Waterford Maternity Benefit.

95.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why full maternity benefit was not paid to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford.

The person referred to by the Deputy was, in accordance with the legislation governing the payment of maternity allowance, paid the allowance from the commencement of the sixth week prior to end of the expected week of confinement as certified by her doctor. As the confinement occurred four weeks earlier than expected she was only entitled to two weeks' payment prior to the confinement. The allowance was paid for the full six weeks after the confinement and in the circumstances she was paid the full amount of maternity allowance to which she was entitled.
