Vol. 311 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Donegal Housing.

170.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the number of specific instant (rural) cottages which have been advertised for tender by the Donegal County Council but for which capital funds are not available to place building contracts; when it is intended to provide sufficient moneys to build these cottages; and the amount to be provided.

171.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the number of small housing schemes planned by Donegal County Council to meet the housing needs of virtually every village and town in the county and ready for advertising, for which no funds are available; and, in view of the urgent housing needs of so many families, if he will indicate when sufficient funds will be made available to allow these schemes to commence.

I propose to take Questions No. 170 and 171 together.

Details of the proposed housing programme of Donegal County Council in 1979 have been submitted to my Department in connection with their claim for allocations of capital for the current year. This is under consideration in conjunction with similar claims from other housing authorities. A decision on these allocations will be made by me when the examination of claims has been completed. In the meantime, housing authorities, including Donegal County Council, have been informed that pending the notification of a capital allocation, arrangements may be made for the start of single rural cottages and demountable dwellings which are required to meet ascertained urgent housing needs, provided my Department are consulted beforehand and do not object.
