asked the Minister for the Public Service if he will set out side by side the principal benefits and contributions applicable to (a) manual employees of the State—State industrial workers, (b) local authority manual workers, and (c) Bord na Móna manual workers, in schemes approved directly or indirectly by his Department, including provision for pension and exgratia pensions for widows.

The information required is set out in the attached table.

Pension

1/80th of the amount by which annual pensionable remuneration exceeds twice the annual equivalent of the maximum personal rate of old age (contributory) pension payable at the time of retirement, to a man who has no adult dependant or qualified children, in respect of each year of pensionable service (pro-rata for a fraction of a year), minimum 5 years, maximum 40 years.

Lump sum

3/80ths of annual pensionable remuneration in respect of each year of pensionable service (pro-rata for a fraction of a year), minimum 5 years, maximum 40 years.

A gratuity equal to 1/30th of his annual retiring wage for each year of pensionable service subject to a maximum of 30/30ths.

Death Gratuity

Annual pensionable remuneration or the lump-sum which would have been awarded if employee retired on grounds of ill health on date of death.

Contribution

Non-contributory

(a) 3½% of the amount by which weekly wages exceed twice the maximum personal weekly rate of old age (contributory) pension payable to a man who has no adult dependant or qualified children, and(b) 1½% of weekly wages.

Widows and Children's Pensions

(a) Death in service or death after retirement with ill-health pension.

No widows' and children's pension scheme in operation.

(i) Widow

One half of pension employee would have had had he served to age 65.

(ii) Children

One third of widow's pension for each child, maximum three children.

One third of widow's pension for each child, maximum three children.

(iii) Orphans

Two thirds of widow's pension for first child and one third of widow's pension for second child.

(b) Death after retirement other than on ill health grounds.

(i) Widow

(c) Contributions

(i) Periodic contributions of 1½% of the amount by which weekly wages exceed twice the maximum personal weekly rate of old age (contributory) pension payable to a man who has no adult dependant or qualified children.

Benefits are two thirds of those under the contributory scheme as outlined at (a) and (b) above. (This is being increased to five-sixths with effect from 1 July, 1979.)
