Vol. 311 No. 9

Written Answers. - Offaly Disability Benefit Payment.

180.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why disability benefit has not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Offaly.

The person referred to by the Deputy claimed disability benefit in respect of incapacity for work from 27 November 1978. He was not entitled to benefit as, according to the records of the Department, he had no contributions paid or credited in 1977, the contribution year governing his claim.

When notified to this effect on 7 December 1978 he replied that he had been employed in the United Kingdom for eight years and that he had written for his British insurance number. As it is necessary, for the purpose of obtaining his United Kingdom insurance record, to have details of his employment there, that is, names and addresses of his employers and periods of employment, an inquiry was sent to him seeking this information.

When his reply is received a request will be made to the United Kingdom Department of Health and Social Security to supply particulars of his contribution record there so that his entitlement to disability benefit may be considered.

Pending a decision on his claim he is being paid supplementary welfare allowance.
