In their Industrial Plan 1977 to 1980, published in April 1978, the Industrial Development Authority set a total job creation target of 1,400 for this four-year period for five town groups in County Mayo. A revised plan covering the period from 1978 to 1982 will be published shortly and will contain increased job targets for each of these town groups.
To assist in the achievement of their job targets the IDA have acquired about 50 acres as industrial sites in nine locations in the county and are building or propose to build advance factories in seven locations with a total area of 111,000 sq. ft.
I am informed also by the authority that manufacturing employment in Mayo has increased considerably during the last four years.
