Vol. 313 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballydehob (County Cork) New Primary School.

7.

asked the Minister for Education when work will commence on the new primary school at Ballydehob, County Cork.

It appears that the school authorities are having difficulty in finding a suitable site for the new school. A number of sites offered by them have not been considered suitable.

I understand that the Commissioners of Public Works propose to re-examine one of these sites.

When is it expected that a decision will be reached on this matter?

It would be the concern of the Department that the school be proceeded with as quickly as possible but there have been difficulties dating back to 1976. In one case, the local planning authority were not happy with the site. In another case the site was not regarded as being suitable. All the alleged suitable sites have been examined and none has been found suitable but because of the importance attaching to the matter the Commissioners of Public Works are having a second examination in respect of the one that was considered the most suitable of those available to date.
