asked the Minister for Education the number of new primary schools to be erected or renovated in south-west Cork this year; the location of each school; and the amount of money allocated.

My Department have approved proposals to provide seven new primary schools in south-west Cork. The schools will be located in the following areas: Bantry; Ballinakilla, Bere Island; Ballingeary; Ballydehob; Castletownshend; Crossmahon; Skibbereen. To date grants amounting to £387,634 have been sanctioned towards the cost of the schools. At this stage it is not possible to say when building will start or be completed.

It is also proposed to provide additional accommodation at Ballinspittle national school.
