Vol. 313 No. 9

Written Answers. - Departmental Rented Offices.

300.

asked the Minister for Finance the total annual rent payable in respect of rented offices for each office rented under the jurisdiction of his Department, if there are any proposals to build offices which will be owned by the Government themselves and in each case of the foregoing to give the address and square footage of each such location.

The total amount payable in respect of rented office premises occupied by Government Departments, with the exception of the Department of Posts and Telegraphs, is approximately £4,475,000 per annum at present.

It is not the practice to disclose the amount of commercial rents payable in respect of individual properties and it would not be in the public interest to do so.

The details requested in relation to the building of offices which will be owned by the Government, including their location and square footage, are as follows:

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the total annual rent payable in respect of rented offices for each office rented under the jurisdiction of his Department, if there are any proposals to build offices which will be owned by the Government themselves and in each case of the foregoing to give the address and square footage of each such location.

The total annual rent payable by my Department in respect of rented offices is £1,045,541.29. There are no proposals at present to build Government offices for my Department.

asked the Minister for Defence the total annual rent payable in respect of rented offices for each office rented under the jurisdiction of his Department, if there are any proposals to build offices which will be owned by the Government themselves, and in each case of the foregoing to give the address and square footage of each such location.

My Department do not rent premises for use only as office accommodation. The Department do, however, rent premises for the use of the Defence Forces, which include rooms used as offices as well as accommodation for training, stores, and so on. It is not possible to indicate the element for office accommodation included in the rents paid for these premises.

Consideration is at present being given to the question of having premises, which will include office accommodation, built at a number of locations for the use of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil. The dimensions of the office accommodation have not yet been decided.
