The works programme of the Commissioners of Public Works, under the Coast Protection Act, 1963, in 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1979 and the respective costs and numbers employed are set out in the following tabular statement.

andMr. D'Arcy asked the Minister for Finance details of all current applications for assistance under the Coast Protection Act, indicating in each case when and by whom they were submitted, if they have yet been assessed by his Department, if they qualify for assistance from the EEC Regional Fund, if dwellings are threatened by the coast erosion in question, and when a decision will be made on each application.

Applications received by the Commissioners of Public Works under the Coast Protection Act, 1963, the names of the promoting authorities and the dates of the applications are listed in the attached tabular statement.

The applications are at various stages of assessment and processing under the Act.

EEC Regional Funds assistance is not being sought for coast protection because there is a sufficient availability of other infrastructural projects to utilise this country's fund quota.

Dwellings are threatened in some 25 cases.

The Act calls for a number of decisions at different stages by the promoting authorities, the Commissioners, the Minister for Finance and other Ministers. Schemes at Moville and Rossnowlagh, County Donegal, Strandhill, County Sligo, the Murrough, County Wicklow and Youghal (Front Strand), County Cork, have been completed and a scheme is in progress at Enniscrone, County Sligo. Of the other applications seven have not qualified under the Act; ten have been referred back to the promoting authorities for action; in three cases preliminary engineering examinations are under consideration by the Commissioners; six cases are due for survey this year by the Commissioners and the balance will be dealt with as resources allow.
