Vol. 313 No. 9

Written Answers. - School Meals Scheme.

317.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if there is any possibility that children who travel substantial distances to the school for the Deaf and Dumb at Cabra, Dublin, and who may in some instances be absent from home from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. can be given a hot school meal during the day.

Ordinary meals under the school meals scheme are at present being provided in the schools for deaf boys and girls at Cabra. The question of providing hot meals is in the first instance a matter for the school authority and Dublin Corporation subject to the approval of my Department.

No application for sanction has so far been received in my Department but any such proposal would be favourably considered.
