Vol. 313 No. 9

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

320.

andMr. O'Donnell asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the amount recouped in each year from each county council under the rural telephone kiosk guarantee scheme, the total number of kiosks provided in each county, and the eligible local authorities which have not so far participated in the scheme.

Kiosks have been provided under guarantee by local authorities since 1953. Information on the lines sought is not available over that period but that for the years 1974 to 1977 inclusive is given in the statement appended—the 1978 accounts have not yet been issued.

Guarantees are accepted from county councils, county borough councils, borough councils and urban district councils. Those who have participated in the scheme are named in the statement and in the note to it; the other local authorities have not.

Following is the statement:

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the present position in relation to the telephone application of a person in Dublin (details supplied) and if he will expedite the matter without delay.

The provision of service for the applicant concerned is dependent on an underground cabling scheme which, it is regretted, is not expected to be completed before the middle of next year. Everything possible will be done to speed up completion of the cabling scheme and the provision of service.
