On 8 June 1979 the number of applications for price increases under examination in my Department was 56. There is one further price increase application on which the National Prices Commission have made a recommendation to me but which has yet to be considered by the Government.
Since information in regard to individual applications or products involved in such applications must be treated as confidential, it is not possible for me to give the further information sought by the Deputy.
Is it not the case that price increases in relation to CIE and the ESB are under consideration?
I am not prepared to reply to that question. As I have said, any such information is confidential until it has been considered by the Government and the Government have decided what to do in relation to it.
