Vol. 315 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition and Division.

3.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if the Irish Land Commission have any plans for the acquisition of the Ellen Dolan estate at Cloonagh, Lavally, Tuam, County Galway.

On 27 March last, the Land Commission published in Iris Oifigiúil a statutory notice of their intention to proceed for the acquisition of these lands.

4.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will request the Irish Land Commission to inspect the Geraghty estate, Killavoher, Dunmore, County Galway, with a view to acquisition and division between the smallholders in that area.

5.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the serious land congestion and the number of very small holdings in the area, the Land Commission will acquire the Geraghty estate, Killavoher, Dunmore, County Galway, which was recently sold by auction.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 4 and 5 together.

The Land Commission have no proposals in regard to the estate referred to but they are having inquiries made in the matter.

6.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will instruct the Land Commission to take over an estate (details supplied) for distribution to the employees of the estate and local smallholders.

Within the last few years the estate referred to was sold in two lots, with the consent of the Land Commission.

The general area in which the lands are situated is not acutely congested and the Land Commission have no plans to acquire any of the property for division. In any event, the greater part comprises a stud farm and, as such, would not be subject to compulsory acquisition by them.

7.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if it has been decided to acquire a bog (details supplied) or if the Land Commission have any plans for other uses of the bog; and, if so, the details of such plans.

The Land Commission are unable to trace the bog in question from the particulars supplied. If the Deputy will furnish details as to its precise location I shall have the matter investigated.

8.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the number of holdings acquired by the Land Commission in each of the years 1971 to 1978 inclusive and the total acreage involved each year.

The reply takes the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.
