Vol. 315 No. 14

Written Answers. - County Meath Housing Allocations.

158.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reasons Trim Urban Council was only allocated £3,000 for housing in 1979 although it had requested £70,000 and the manner in which it was proposed the £70,000 would be spent, the manner in which the £3,000 will now be spent and the number of persons on the local authority housing list for Trim at the latest available date.

In December 1978, Trim Urban District Council submitted a request to my Department for a capital allocation in 1979 of £40,669 to meet existing commitments on their local authority housing programme at 31 December 1978. The capital allocation made to the council for this purpose in 1979 amounted to £40,000. To date no claim for a further allocation has been received in my Department from the council.

A general review of expenditure on the local authority housing programme is in progress at present. In the course of the review, all housing authorities, including Trim Urban District Council, will be given an opportunity of indicating their capital requirements for new work to be started between 31 July 1979 and the end of the year. Any request for additional capital received from the council will be considered in conjunction with similar claims from other housing authorities.

According to the latest information available to my Department, the council had 32 housing applications, comprising 91 persons on their approved waiting list at the 30 September 1978.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason Navan Urban Council was only allocated £2,000 for local authority housing in 1979 and the number on the town's housing list at the latest available date.

Navan Urban District Council made no request to my Department for capital funds to finance local authority housing in 1979. Accordingly, no capital allocation for this purpose was made to the council. Generally, their local authority house building requirements have, by agreement, been catered for by Meath County Council in recent years.

According to the latest information available to my Department, the urban council had 39 housing applications on their approved waiting list at 30 September 1978.
