Vol. 316 No. 1

Written Answers. - EEC Budget

461.

asked the Minister for Finance (a) the total amount actually received by Ireland to date from the EEC; (b) the total amount allocated to Ireland by the EEC; (c) the total amount received by Ireland from the 1979 EEC budget and (d) the total amount allocated to Ireland in the 1979 EEC budget.

The information sought by the Deputy is set out in the attached statement. The disparity between the figures for receipts and those for allocations arises because there is normally a time-lag between the approval of grants and their date of payment, with the result that receipts from the Community to date have been less than the amount of grants approved.

Following is the statement:

Ireland's receipts and allocations from the European Communities since 1973.

1 These figures include amounts of £292 million for the period 1973-78 and an estimated £60 million for 1979 (to 31 August) for UK and Italian MCA import subsidies which have been administered by Ireland in respect of Irish exports to the UK and Italy since 17 May 1976.

2 In addition to the receipts shown in the above table, receipts also arise as a result of Community regulations on social security for migrant workers. Ireland's receipts under that heading amounted to £15 million in the period 1973-78 and are estimated at £4.3 million in 1979.
