Vol. 316 No. 1

Written Answers. - Killala (Mayo) Pier.

479.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the proposals, if any, for the completion of Killala pier arising out of consultations between the Office of Public Works and Mayo County Council.

Engineers of the Office of Public Works, Mayo County Council and my Department reviewed the technical problems on 29 August. Their finding was that the ideal solution would be to provide sheet-piling out from the face of the pier with a tie across the pier decking and the sheet-piling back-filled.

My Department are awaiting a report from the Office of Public Works on the present-day cost of such work. After that, if this solution is accepted for State grant, the agreement of Mayo County Council to pay 25 per cent of the cost of the works will have to be obtained and they will have to agree to maintain the works when completed.
