483.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when an application for transfer of telephone service (details supplied) will be dealt with and when telephones will be installed at the applicant's new address.

All the applicant's telephone requirements will be met as soon as a cabling scheme, on which provision of service depends, is completed within the next five months or so.

484.

Provision of service is dependent on underground cabling works which it is regretted are not expected to be completed before late 1980.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of outstanding telephone applications in Cork city as at the latest available date.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs in relation to an applicant for telephone service (details supplied) when application for service was first made; the approximate distance of the applicant's premises from the GPO; the reasons for the delay in providing service; the number of lines that will be provided; and the date on which they will be provided; and whether the applicant will receive any priority in view of the employment consequences involved.

The replies to the five parts of the question are, respectively: (a) September, 1978; (b) ¾ mile; (c) the shortage until recently of spare wires in the cable serving the area; (d) Three of the four lines requested will be provided within the next six to eight weeks; provision of the fourth line is dependent on major underground cabling works which are not expected to be completed before late 1980; (e) The application has been regarded as one meriting priority treatment.

488.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the earliest definite date for the provision of (a) a public telephone to serve the Wedgewood Estate, Sandyford, Dublin 14 and (b) private phones to applicants in the same.

(a) I regret that it is not possible to give a definite date at this stage for the provision of the public telephone. There was objection to the original site for the kiosk selected by the Department, and local authority consent to an alternative location proposed is awaited. The kiosk will be erected and brought into service quickly after the necessary consent has been obtained; (b) Telephone service will be provided for waiting applicants in the Wedgewood Estate following completion of the necessary cabling works during the first half of 1980.
