asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of vacancies presently existing in each section of his Department and when it is intended to bring the staff up to the full complement.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will list the present staff shortages in his Department and when it is intended to have those vacancies filled.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 330 and 331 together.

As the Department have a staff of over 27,000 serving in some 130 grades there is always a number of vacancies arising from deaths, retirals, resignations and promotions. I have summarised the current position in a statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.
