Vol. 316 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fisheries Consultation Agreement.

7.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he will indicate the progress made to date, towards fisheries consultation agreement among the nine countries of the EEC.

I presume the Deputy referring to a revised EEC Common Fisheries Policy. Little progress has been made so far towards agreement on a revised Common Fisheries Policy. Discussions are continuing, however, and further consideration will be given to the question at a meeting of the Council Fishery Ministers on 29 October 1979.

What is happening all the promises the Minister made last year that it would be settled in a month, then another month, and it has been going on now for two years? He has sold the fishermen down the drain.

I have never been optimistic about the settlement of that issue.

Is he going to drow them now?

I have always been realistic in this whole area.

(Interruptions.)

We cannot have an argument across the floor of the House.

What did the Minister say in the past to Deputy FitzGerald when he was fighting for 50-mile limit?

We were supposed to behave like Icelanders according to Fianna Fáil in those days.

We were Judases. Now they are the Judases.
