Vol. 316 No. 11

Written Answers. - Reconstruction Grants.

346.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the situation whereby two applications for housing reconstruction grants (details supplied) in County Offaly have been with an inspector of his Department since the second week in September, that no decision has yet been made, if he will give a date for payment of grants and the reasons for the delay to date.

The applicant in each of these cases was informed that a grant of £600 had been approved and would be payable when the proposed house improvement work was satisfactorily completed. I have been informed by my Department inspector that the work has not yet been completed in either case and, as I cannot indicate when this will be done, it would not be possible for me to state on what date the grants will be paid.

However, having regard to the proportion of the total work which the inspector reports, has so far been completed, I am arranging to have an instalment paid to each of the applicants.
