asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he will make a statement in relation to the illegal killing of grey seals on the island of Inniskea off the Mayo coast recently, if he is aware that between 100 and 130 adult seals were killed and some 100 seal pups starved to death or abandoned and if his Department have taken action to ensure that those responsible are prosecuted under the Wildlife Act, 1976.

Officials of my Department recently found that 34 grey seal adults and 33 pups had been killed on the Inniskea Islands by persons unknown in contravention of the Wildlife Act, 1976.
The Garda Síochána were informed of the occurrence and are investigating the matter.
