Vol. 317 No. 9

Written Answers. - National College of Art and Design.

59.

asked the Minister for Education if students who qualified in painting at the National College of Art prior to 1966 were not differentiated into "pass" and "honours" categories; if, when an honours category was introduced in 1966, it was agreed by the Department of Education that students who had previously qualified in painting would be deemed to have "honours" qualification as the pre-1966 qualification was of that standard; and if he will now ask the board of the college to award statements to pre-1966 qualifiers on request certifying that they have attained "honours" standard in painting.

The position in this matter is that, in fact, prior to 1966, students' results were differentiated into "pass" and "honours" categories. To achieve the honours categories students required 60 per cent of the marks in each subject and a minimum of 70 per cent of the marks in the overall total for the subjects. The further questions raised by the Deputy do not, therefore apply.
