asked the Taoiseach the total quantity of frozen chipped potatoes imported for the years 1977, 1978, 1979, and the countries of origin.
Written Answers. - Chipped Potato Imports.
316.
The particulars requested by the Deputy are not available since the Customs and Excise Tariff of Ireland, on which the import statistics are based, does not contain a separate heading for "frozen chipped potatoes". However, in 1979, for the first time, a new heading was raised for "Potatoes (whether or not cooked), preserved by freezing" and it is understood that imports under this description relate almost entirely to "frozen chipped potatoes".
Imports under this heading in 1979 were as follows:
Country of origin |
Quantity tonnes |
France |
179 |
Belgium/Luxembourg |
1,058 |
Netherlands |
2,596 |
Great Britain |
4,291 |
Northern Ireland |
480 |
Canada |
1,295 |
Total |
