Vol. 318 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Third Level Education in Dublin.

27.

asked the Minister for Education if he has examined the Higher Education Authority study on higher education in Dublin; and if he will outline his policy in relation to each of the recommendations in the report.

I accept, in principle, that the recommendations in the report should form the basis on which consideration should be given to future policy developments in relation to educational provision at third level in the greater Dublin area. Detailed examination of each recommendation will be made at the appropriate stage in the context of requirements as established over the relevant period of time.

Can the Minister give the House, and indeed people in the Dublin area, an assurance that these recommendations will be treated with rather more urgency than he seems to indicate in his reply?

The degree of urgency necessary for the provision of places—specifically technological places at third level—will be given to the matter. The Deputy need have no fear about that.
