asked the Minister for Health the population estimates, within the context of future hospital development plans, for the areas in Dublin to be covered by (a) Mater Hospital, (b) St. Vincent's Hospital, (c) St. James Hospital, (d) Beaumont Hospital, (e) Tallaght Hospital and (f) Blanchardstown Hospital.

For the purposes of hospital planning, it is estimated that the size of population which will be served by each major general hospital in the Dublin area for community specialties such as general medicine and general surgery will be of the following order:

In respect of regional specialties such as ENT, ophthalmology and urology and higher specialties such as cardiac surgery, neuro-surgery and nephrology, the hospitals will serve much larger populations.

asked the Minister for Health the current weekly cost to the State of maintaining a patient in a Dublin teaching hospital.

Based on the non-capital allocations approved for 1980, the cost to the State of maintaining a patient in Dublin teaching hospitals will be approximately £345 per week on average in 1980. The cost of out-patient, as well as in-patient services is reflected in this figure.

asked the Minister for Health the amount spent in the latest year for which figures are available on maintenance of each of the following hospitals in Dublin: (a) Mercer's, (b) Patrick Dun's, (c) Jervis Street, (d) St. Laurence's, (e) Adelaide, (f) Meath and (g) Dr. Stevens'.
