Written Answers. - Cost of Telephone Directory.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the total annual cost of preparing and printing the telephone directories for each of the last five years with the break-down cost of (a) printing, (b) preparation of (i) part one directory, (ii) part two directory, (iii) golden pages no. 1 and no. 2; the total cost of delivery to subscribres; the total estimated cost of producing and delivering all the directories in 1980 and when these are expected to be delivered.

The telephone directories are produced under contract and it would be countrary to established practice to disclose information about contract prices. The classified directories are provided by the firm holding the concession for these directories and the costs of production are not available to the Department.

The cost of delivering the four directories in 1979 was about £150,000 and, in 1980, is expected to be about £175,000.

It is planned to deliver the 1980 directories broadly as follows: telephone directory part 1, in May; telephone directory part 2, in July/August; classified directory part 2, in September; classified directory part 1, in October.

The name is Richview Browne and Nolan Limited.
