Vol. 319 No. 6

Written Answers. - Waterford City Housing.

66.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to (a) the situation whereby the recent annual average house completions by Waterford Corporation of 90 houses per year is inadequate to meet the requirements of rehousing applicants, and (b) the need to increase this programme to 150 new houses per year; if he will ensure that adequate central government finance is made available to meet this programme and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of Waterford Corporation's housing requirements and of their programme. Their claim for a capital allocation to finance local authority housing work in progress has been examined in conjunction with similar claims from other housing authorities and on 14 March 1980 I made a capital allocation to the corporation of £1,350,000 for this purpose. Claims for new local authority house construction works to be started before 31 July 1980 are being received at present. A decision on these claims will be made as soon as possible.
