Vol. 319 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Payments.

334.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when the investigation and finalisation of various complaints and requests by a person (details supplied) in Dublin, regarding the handling of his affairs is likely to be completed, if his attention has been drawn to the considerable delay in these matters and if he will expedite the completion of such inquiries.

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 26 April 1979 to 26 June 1979. Payment issued to him at regular intervals on receipt of medical evidence of incapacity for the full period of his illness. As he complained he had not received seven of the cheques special arrangements were made to extract all the paid cheques for the full period of the claim.

When shown the cheques on 12 March 1980 by an inspector of my Department he stated that he was satisfied that he had received and cashed all the cheques and that he did not wish any further action to be taken in the matter. He signed a declaration to this effect at the request of the inspector.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in the payment of an old age pension to a person (details supplied) in County Cork and when payment will issue.

A non-contributory old age pension at the maximum rate has been awarded to the person concerned with effect from 21 November 1978. The appropriate pension order book and arrears due were issued on 2 April 1980.

When the local pensions committee awarded pension on 17 August 1979 the award was appealed because evidence of deed of transfer of holding to son being stamped was not available. It was only later that it was confirmed that the deed had been stamped but had been associated with her spouse's separate application for old age pension which had been in payment from October 1979.

I regret the delay which was due to the fact that the information regarding stamping of the deed was not on her file and both files had not been associated when her husband's appeal was decided by the appeals officer.
