Vol. 320 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Africa Military Equipment Supplies.

1.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism if the multi-national subsidiaries (details supplied) operating in Ireland, are engaged in supplying military equipment to South Africa in defiance of the recent UN mandatory arms embargo.

The export of military equipment is regulated by the Control of Exports Order, 1979.

Having regard to the United Nations Security Council mandatory arms embargo in respect of the supply of military equipment to South Africa, licences for the export of such equipment to South Africa have not been issued by my Department to Irish subsidiaries of the multi-national companies identified by the Deputy.

There is no question of them supplying?
