Vol. 320 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gas Cylinder Price.

5.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism if he will give a break-down of the price paid by consumers for the popular size of LPG cylinders showing the elements represented by (a) excise duty, (b) VAT, and (c) retailers margin and the number of megat.o.e. represented by LPG sold in the most recent year for which figures are available.

The most popular size of LPG cylinder is the 11.343 kilogram standard domestic cylinder marketed by Calor Gas (Ireland) Ltd. Of the current maximum retail price of £4.33 for this cylinder, £0.31 is in respect of excise duty and £0.49 is in respect of the retailers' margin. There is no value-added tax on sales of bottled gas cylinders.

With regard to the second part of the Deputy's question, the number of megat.o.e. represented by LPG sold in the period January to December 1979, which is the latest year for which figures are available, was 0.17 megat.o.e.
