Vol. 320 No. 3

Written Answers. - Bray Fireplace Installations.

72.

asked the Minister for the Environment the steps he has taken towards supplying fireplaces for local authority dwellings in Fassaroe and Oldcourt, Bray, County Wicklow; the percentages of these dwellings with fireplaces and the percentage in the Dublin County Council area; and if he will make grants available either to the local authority or to the tenant to cover the cost of such installations.

The provision of fireplaces in local authority dwellings is a matter for the local authority concerned.

The percentage of houses in Fassaroe and Oldcourt with fireplaces is 24 per cent and in the Dublin area it is 95 per cent approximately.

Grants towards the cost of installing fireplaces or other solid fuel heating systems in houses without them were discontinued with effect from 1 February 1980. Substantial loans are, however, available to enable tenants of local authority houses and other houses to carry out such work where they so desire.
