The out-of-area lines connected to an automatic exchange requested by the company cannot be provided until additional circuits are provided early next year between the local manual exchange and the automatic exchange. However, additional lines connected to the local manual exchange could be provided in the meantime if this would be helpful to the company.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if his attention has been drawn to the unsatisfactory nature of the telephone service at Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary, and his proposals to remedy the situation with particular reference to the urgent need to provide an automatic telephone exchange, and if he will receive a deputation in connection with the matter.
I am aware of the position at Carrick-on-Suir. The present manual service there compares not un-favourably with that at numerous manual exchanges throughout the country. In fact it is better than most. In advance of the provision of automatic service at Carrick-on-Suir, which is dependent on the prior extension of the trunk exchange at Waterford, and is not expected until 1982, a new larger manual exchange will shortly be opened at Carrick-on-Suir as an interim measure.
If I were to receive a deputation as my predecessor did last year I would be unable to do more than assure them that the works required will be expedited as much as practicable. I see little purpose in receiving a delegation to repeat that assurance.

Terms will be quoted to the applicant within the next two weeks or so. The telephone will be installed within three months of completion of an agreement.
