Vol. 321 No. 6

Written Answers. - North Tipperary Employment Creation.

346.

asked the Minister for Finance the financial allocation made to North Tipperary from the £20 million included in the national understanding for employment creation.

The allocation of the £20 million contributed by the Government and the employers to the Employment Guarantee Fund under the terms of the national understanding is a matter for decision by the Tripartite Standing Committee on Employment. North Tipperary will benefit from global allocations from the fund and indirectly from allocations for adjoining areas. In addition, as far as specific projects are concerned, the committee to date have allocated a grant of £100,000 to Castle Brand Ltd. (Nenagh) in respect of a new project which will directly maintain and create 23 jobs.

It is also intended to construct a major sports centre in Nenagh as part of the national programme for the provision of sports and recreational facilities announced by the Minister of State at the Department of Education on 9 April 1980. The Tripartite Standing Committee on Employment have agreed to make available a sum of £3.5 million from the Employment Guarantee Fund as a contribution towards the total cost of this national programme.
