Vol. 321 No. 9

Written Answers. - House Improvement Grants.

339.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in sanctioning fireplace grants for two applicants (details supplied) in County Dublin; and when the grants will be sanctioned.

There has been no delay in either of these cases. The first case has been referred to my Department's inspector for investigation and report with a view to the payment of the grant. The second case is awaiting the submission by the applicants of a certificate from the contractors who carried out the work.

340.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received representations from Dún Laoghaire Corporation about the delay in sanctioning fireplace grants in the Ballybrack housing estate, County Dublin; and the action he has taken to remedy the delays as a result of the representations.

I have not received representations from Dún Laoghaire Corporation about delays in sanctioning fireplace grants in the Ballybrack housing estate. As a result of the huge volume of applications for house improvement grants being dealt with at present, some delays are inevitable.

341.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a home improvement grant was not authorised for an applicant (details supplied) in County Dublin.

The grant applied for in this case was for the installation of a fireplace and back-boiler. The applicant indicated on the application form that his house had been completed within 12 months prior to the commencement of the installation. As a solid-fuel grant is not payable in such circumstances his application was rejected.

342.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a home improvement grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in Dublin; if he will expedite payment in view of the hardship in this case; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The file in this case is with the Department's inspector with a view to the approval and, if work has been satisfactorily completed, payment of the grant.

343.

asked the Minister for the Environment if the State is prepared to make any special grants available to people to carry out the rethatching of their premises to retain their traditional appearance in certain rural areas.

I have no proposals to introduce special grants for rethatching.

344.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a home improvement grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in Dublin; and the reason for the delay to date.

There is no record of the receipt in my Department of an application for a house improvement grant from the person named.
