Vol. 323 No. 3

Written Answers . - County Dublin New Garda Station .

335.

asked the Minister for Justice if, arising from the deputation he received from Dublin County Council concerning the need for a Garda station in the Ballybrack-Loughlinstown area, he now has any proposals to establish such a station; and, if not, why.

: The position is that a manpower deployment study team is at present urgently examining how the most effective police service can be provided for all the developing areas in Dublin city and county. This study, when completed, will form the basis for tackling the policing problems of the region in a unified manner so as to provide an improved service in all the areas concerned including Ballybrack-Loughlinstown.

With regard to the provision of local stations, this may not always be the best way of providing effective policing and the greater use of mobile patrols, backed-up by modern communications systems, may in many cases provide a more effective police service. It is expected that the study team will make its report shortly but, as essentially the same issues arise in a number of areas at present and as it may be necessary to introduce some pilot schemes for test purposes, it may be some time before a firm decision is reached regarding the Ballybrack-Loughlinstown area.
