341.

asked the Minister for Justice (a) the number of applications made under section 1 of the Marriages Act, 1972, in each of the years since the Act came into force, to the High Court by a person under 16 years of age seeking permission to marry; (b) the number of such applications which have been successful; (c) the number refused; and (d) the number withdrawn; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

asked the Minister for Justice (a) the number of applications made under section 7 of the Marriages Act, 1972, in each of the years since the Act came into force, by persons under 21 years seeking to dispense with the consent of a guardian to that person entering into marriage, and seeking in the alternative the consent of the President of the High Court; (b) the number of such applications which have been granted; (c) the number refused and (d) the number withdrawn; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

: With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 341 and 342 together.

The particulars sought by the Deputy in respect of sections 1 and 7 of the Marriages Act, 1972, which were brought into force on 1 January 1975, are as follows:
